About the Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through Marymoor Park on a flat route, so there is no significant climbing to worry about. The surroundings are park scenery rather than roads or pavement, which makes the morning feel a bit more open. The race benefits a local clothing program that outfits kids for school, and that purpose runs through everything about how the event is organized.

Parking and check-in are both at the park, and the organizers describe the process as easy. Post-race, there are snacks and refreshments at the finish area.

Common Questions About the Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (57 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 20:55 while the median finisher took 39:31. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
