About the Old Goat Track Club XC Classic

The course runs around the fields at Waters Farm, mostly on grass with just a brief touch of pavement in between. It is spike-friendly terrain, open and relatively fast by cross-country standards. This is also the opening race of the USATF New England XC Grand Prix series, so the field tends to include competitive club runners alongside those just there for the mud.

Day-of registration opens in the Darling Barn, and you can pay cash or Venmo on site. Parking is free at the farm, though there is a single road in and out, so arriving early helps. Water and bananas are at the finish, and awards go out shortly after the last race wraps.

Common Questions About the Old Goat Track Club XC Classic

Will I finish last at the Old Goat Track Club XC Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 19:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 38:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Old Goat Track Club XC Classic a good first 5K?

It is a small race (102 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Old Goat Track Club XC Classic?

The 5K winner ran 15:32 while the median finisher took 19:10. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
