About the Ocean City Running Festival

The courses all run along the Ocean City Boardwalk, and the half marathon route starts inside Assateague State Park before heading back toward the inlet. That stretch through the park is different from a typical road race, with marsh and open sky on either side. The shorter distances stay closer to the boardwalk the whole way.

The expo and packet pickup are held the evening before at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, which is worth getting to if you can. Race-morning pickup is available at the inlet but the organizers are upfront that it adds stress for everyone involved. Half marathon runners park at the inlet and take shuttle buses out to the Assateague start, so plan your morning with that leg in mind.

Common Questions About the Ocean City Running Festival

Will I finish last at the Ocean City Running Festival?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:23:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:11:07, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ocean City Running Festival a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 945 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ocean City Running Festival?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:17:27 while the median finisher took 2:23:13. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
