About the Northern Lights 5K Fun Run
The course runs at night around the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, looping the route several times through glow-lit surroundings. It is flat and straightforward, which makes it easy to navigate in the dark. Runners dressed in neon or LED gear are common, and the atmosphere leans more toward spectacle than time trial.
Packet pickup runs the week before at a community health center on Munson Ave, with a second option at the Civic Center pavilion on race night before the start. There is no race-day registration, so picking up early is worth planning around. Cash drawings happen after the finish, but you have to be present to win.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Northern Lights 5K Fun Run has been held every year since at least 2016. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
