About the Norman Turkey Day 5K

The course runs through the streets of Norman on Thanksgiving morning, starting and finishing at the high school, with the final stretch on the track. There is a short distance option alongside the main run, so the whole family tends to show up, some in costume. It is a neighborhood event that has been going long enough to feel like part of the holiday.

Packet pickup runs the two days before the race at a local running store. If you miss those windows, there is a brief race-morning pickup at the high school before the start. There is no registration on race day, so plan ahead.

Common Questions About the Norman Turkey Day 5K

Will I finish last at the Norman Turkey Day 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Norman Turkey Day 5K a good first 5K?

With 929 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Norman Turkey Day 5K?

The 5K winner ran 15:22 while the median finisher took 35:41. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
