About the New Albany 5000

The course runs along the Ohio River Greenway, a paved path that cuts through downtown New Albany. It is a road race on flat, open ground beside the river, and the setting is more scenic than most in-town courses. Proceeds support the local high school cross country program, so the race has a real connection to the running community here.

Common Questions About the New Albany 5000

Will I finish last at the New Albany 5000?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:49, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the New Albany 5000 a good first 5K?

It is a small race (45 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the New Albany 5000?

The 5K winner ran 18:36 while the median finisher took 32:49. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
