About the Navesink Challenge 12k & 5k

The Navesink Challenge runs over Thanksgiving weekend, put on by the Jersey Shore Running Club. The course is in Middletown, and the township prohibits strollers, bikes, and dogs on the route, so expect a clean field of runners.

Packet pickup runs across several windows before race morning, including an evening slot at Birdsmouth Brewing and options at a Little League clubhouse in Bodman Park on Market Street in Red Bank. The post-race party returns to Birdsmouth Brewing, where runners and volunteers get a complimentary beer, and there are raffle prizes and team award recognition.

Common Questions About the Navesink Challenge 12k & 5k

Will I finish last at the Navesink Challenge 12k & 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 12K field finished slower than 1:07:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:48:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Navesink Challenge 12k & 5k a good first 12K?

A field of 536 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 12K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Navesink Challenge 12k & 5k?

The 12K winner ran 39:30 while the median finisher took 1:07:50. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
