About the Navesink 4

The course runs along Cooper Road through a part of Middletown that still has horse farms and tree cover. It is rolling rather than flat, with shade for most of the route. The surroundings feel more rural than you might expect, and the road character holds throughout.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Bodman Park and again on race morning up until close to the start. After the finish, the party moves to a brewery in a nearby town, with food from a local caterer and ice cream back at the park.

Common Questions About the Navesink 4

Will I finish last at the Navesink 4?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4 Miles field finished slower than 40:19, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:20:27, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Navesink 4 a good first 4 Miles?

A field of 408 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Navesink 4?

The 4 Miles winner ran 21:30 while the median finisher took 40:19. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
