About the My Better Half Marathon

This race is built around who you bring. You register as a pair, with categories for couples, best friends, two guys who won't admit they're inseparable, or solo runners embracing the single life. The course opens with a short, sharp climb, then the second loop flattens out considerably, so the back half runs easier than the first.

There is a relay option where two runners split the loops however they like, with the handoff happening at a gazebo in the park just before the finish line. Hot oatmeal and free race photos are at the finish. Orca Running organizes the event, and proceeds benefit Rebuilding Together Seattle.

Common Questions About the My Better Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the My Better Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:06:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:41:16, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the My Better Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 329 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the My Better Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:15:23 while the median finisher took 2:06:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the My Better Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. Club Northwest, Seattle Running Club, West Seattle Running Club and others in Seattle welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
