About the Mutt Strut 5K and 1-Mile Walk and Run

The race starts at Tanglewood Park, at an outdoor concert shell, and the course is open to people running with their dogs. Dog contests run alongside the race, so there is plenty of reason to stick around after you finish. Local food trucks are on site, and vendors set up near the start area. The whole event benefits Forsyth Humane Society.

There is a second packet pickup location the evening before the race at a car dealership in Winston-Salem. Tell the receptionist at the front desk why you are there and they will get you sorted. Race-morning pickup is available at the park itself.

Common Questions About the Mutt Strut 5K and 1-Mile Walk and Run

Will I finish last at the Mutt Strut 5K and 1-Mile Walk and Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 55:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:20:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Mutt Strut 5K and 1-Mile Walk and Run a good first 5K?

A field of 333 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Mutt Strut 5K and 1-Mile Walk and Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:05 while the median finisher took 55:07. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
