About the Miles for Meals 5K

The course winds through Tanglewood Park during the Festival of Lights, so runners are moving through illuminated displays the whole way. It is an evening event, and the park is dark outside the lights, which is part of the atmosphere. Dogs are not allowed on the course, a rule the organizers take seriously after past incidents on the route.

Packet pickup is offered the evening before at Hillsdale Church, and again in the afternoon on race day near the pool area at Tanglewood Park. The park closes to vehicle traffic before the race starts, so arriving early matters. Overflow parking is available at the golf course lots if the main pool area fills up. Food trucks are on site after the race.

Common Questions About the Miles for Meals 5K

Will I finish last at the Miles for Meals 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 49:35, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:23:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Miles for Meals 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

With 929 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Miles for Meals 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:59 while the median finisher took 49:35. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
