About the MPD Pursuit 1K & 5K

The race starts and finishes at the Midland Police Department, honoring local law enforcement. Runners are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite superhero, which gives the morning a costume-party feel alongside the usual race energy. There is a short fun run option for families and kids, and a longer route for those looking to run harder.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local running store called Midland Athletic Company, with race-morning pickup also available at the start. Several parking lots are scattered within easy walking distance of the police department. After the race, a vendor area includes coffee, juice, and fitness vendors set up near the finish.

Common Questions About the MPD Pursuit 1K & 5K

Will I finish last at the MPD Pursuit 1K & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 30:54, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the MPD Pursuit 1K & 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 297 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the MPD Pursuit 1K & 5K?

The 5K winner ran 17:00 while the median finisher took 30:54. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
