About the Moonlight on the Falls - Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon, and Distance Challenge
This is a nighttime race through Blackwater Falls State Park, run entirely on paved park roads that are closed to traffic after dark. The course loops back to the same point repeatedly, which means you are never far from other runners. Mountain air in late summer runs genuinely cool up here, and the dark makes the surroundings feel different than any daytime road race.
Runners are required to bring a headlamp and a reflective vest, but the organizers encourage glow sticks and creative lighting, so the field tends to look festive after sundown. The evening before the race has live music, vendors, and food at packet pickup. Distance Challenge participants who run through the night are welcomed at sunrise with breakfast sandwiches, fruit, and coffee.
