About the Miles at the Moose

The course runs through the fairways and cart paths of a golf course on the edge of town, so the surface alternates between pavement and packed path with open turf on either side. There are rolling hills throughout, nothing brutal, but enough grade to keep it honest. The surroundings are wide and green, with the kind of long sightlines you get on a golf course.

Packet pickup opens race morning at the clubhouse, and parking is right there in front of it, with overflow along the driving range. After the race, donuts and cider are out. The event benefits a breast cancer program, and the crowd reflects that, with families and supporters mixed in among the runners.

Common Questions About the Miles at the Moose

Will I finish last at the Miles at the Moose?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 51:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:09, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Miles at the Moose a good first 5K?

It is a small race (36 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Miles at the Moose?

The 5K winner ran 23:03 while the median finisher took 51:09. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
