About the Mayor's Challenge 5K + 1 Mile Costume Fun Run
The course runs through Poricy Park, which the organizer describes as a hidden gem of Middletown, and it earns that description partly because it is not easy. Wide grass paths give way to stretches of single track, and the hills are real. Underfoot you will find grass, gravel, and wooden platforms, none of it paved.
This is a Halloween costume race, and the post-race gathering leans into that fully. Prizes go to overall finishers and age group leaders, but also to the best costumes, judged in a few categories. The charity benefiting from entry fees supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the area.
