This is a team relay across open Iowa countryside, starting in Jefferson and finishing in downtown Des Moines. Teams split the full distance into legs of varying length, each runner taking a turn before climbing back into the van while the others rest. The rural stretches between exchange points give it a road-trip feel as much as a race feel.
