The race is held at a business park on Lake Norman, so the surroundings are open and waterside rather than wooded or urban. The course itself is a standard road distance on flat terrain, the kind of surface that works for most paces. The event honors a wrestling coach and mentor who spent decades leading through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and that purpose runs through the whole morning.
