About the Litchfield Hills Road Race

The course runs through Litchfield on roads that pass some genuinely pretty countryside. The defining feature is Gallows Lane, a hill steep enough that it has its own reputation among runners who have done this race before. The rest of the route rolls, but that climb is where the race is decided for most people.

Live bands are posted along the course, which gives the middle miles a different feel than a quiet road race. There are also shorter races for children running alongside the main event, so the morning draws a crowd beyond just the runners toeing the start line.

Common Questions About the Litchfield Hills Road Race

Will I finish last at the Litchfield Hills Road Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 7 Miles field finished slower than 1:13:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:15:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Litchfield Hills Road Race a good first 7 Miles?

With 931 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 7 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Litchfield Hills Road Race?

The 7 Miles winner ran 34:20 while the median finisher took 1:13:44. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
