About the Lexington Early Bird 5k

This is a Thanksgiving morning race in Lexington, with a shorter distance option alongside the main course. It runs rain or shine, so the weather does not get you out of it. The setup has a neighborhood feel, the kind of morning where you might spot a coworker or a cousin at the start line.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race, with registration also available on race morning before the gun goes off. Awards follow not long after the last finishers come in, so you are not standing around waiting before the holiday gets going.

Common Questions About the Lexington Early Bird 5k

Will I finish last at the Lexington Early Bird 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 32:40, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:01, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lexington Early Bird 5k a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 320 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lexington Early Bird 5k?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:15 while the median finisher took 32:40. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
