About the 4th Annual Lettuce Run for the Friendly Fridge BX
The race is put on by the Van Cortlandt Track Club and benefits the Friendly Fridge BX, a Bronx organization that rescues surplus food and gets it to neighbors who need it. The route runs through Van Cortlandt Park, with a longer run option and a shorter walk option, plus a kids' race. The timing, just after Thanksgiving, gives the whole morning a particular resonance.
Raffle prizes and music are part of the post-race scene, and the start area has the energy of a cause people actually care about. The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance is among the local partners involved, so the park setting is well-supported. If you are bringing kids, there is a race for them too.
