About the Leprechaun Race 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through downtown and midtown Reno, so there is real city texture to it, not a park loop. Costumes are very much part of the culture here, green and glittery being the prevailing aesthetic. A live leprechaun character runs the course, and anyone who beats that pace earns a special prize, which gives the whole thing a playful edge.

Both the main race and a short kids' dash start from City Plaza. The kids' course is an out-and-back sized for younger legs, giving children a genuine race-day experience without the full distance. If you are bringing the family, that staggered start structure means the morning has a natural shape to it.

Common Questions About the Leprechaun Race 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Leprechaun Race 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:37, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Leprechaun Race 5K Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

With 2,400 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Leprechaun Race 5K Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:11 while the median finisher took 33:47. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
