About the Legacy of Courage Half Marathon - Houston

Russ Poppe Family Park in Northwest Houston gives this race an unusual mix of surfaces: paved paths, crushed granite trails, shaded stretches under pine canopy, and winding bike trails through green space. The half marathon runs as an out-and-back repeated a couple of times, so you cover the same ground in passes, which means the scenery stays consistent but the legs feel every repeat.

Packet pickup runs race morning before the start, and the finish area has snacks, refreshments, a live DJ, and an awards ceremony on site. The park is set up for spectators, so friends and family have room to watch from multiple spots along the course.

Common Questions About the Legacy of Courage Half Marathon - Houston

Will I finish last at the Legacy of Courage Half Marathon - Houston?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 36:48, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Legacy of Courage Half Marathon - Houston a good first 3.11 Miles?

It is a small race (81 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Legacy of Courage Half Marathon - Houston?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 20:02 while the median finisher took 36:48. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
