About the Last Chance Mile
The Last Chance Mile runs through Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula. The race happens in the off-season, when the park is not staffed, so expect the roads to be whatever the weather left them. Fresh snow is fine and the race goes on; serious icing is the thing that gives organizers pause. That uncertainty is part of the deal here, and most people seem to come out anyway.
There are no restrooms in the park, so plan accordingly before you arrive. The start is on park roads, which may be snow-covered depending on what falls beforehand. The organizers are upfront about the conditions you might find, which is worth knowing if you are driving any distance to get there.
