About the Crow's Nest Run for the Rescues 5K
The Crow's Nest, a bar in Ashtabula, serves as both the start and finish, and the theme is the Browns-Steelers rivalry. Runners show up in their team's colors, which makes the start line look more like a tailgate than a race staging area. The course is a standard road loop, and proceeds go to the local animal shelter, which takes in pets on an unlimited-stay basis.
Registration opens well before the gun, so there is time to settle in before the start. Afterward, the party stays at The Crow's Nest, where beer is available post-race for runners of legal age. The venue doubles as the finish-line celebration spot, which keeps everything in one place.
