About the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon

The course starts at a waterfront park and winds through city streets before climbing onto the Fred Hartman Bridge, a cable-stayed structure with tall twin towers and bright yellow cables visible from a long way off. You cross it twice, so there is a return stretch with open views of the bay in both directions. The finish is at a town plaza a short walk from the start.

Parking at the start is at the beach park itself, with overflow at a high school across the street. Parking at the finish is tight, and the organizers are direct about it: walk back to your car rather than waiting for a shuttle. The post-race party includes food and cold beer, with awards following later in the morning.

Common Questions About the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:33:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:14:53, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 843 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:23:55 while the median finisher took 2:33:50. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
