About the Karknocker 5K Race/Walk - 29th Annual

The course is USATF certified and starts and finishes on the East Rochester School District campus. It runs as an evening race, which keeps the atmosphere a little different from a morning start: the crowd tends to stay close to the finish line and the awards happen right there shortly after the last runners come through. Prize money goes deep into the field, and age group awards are competitive.

Parking on campus is tight, and Woodbine Avenue is closed on race day, so most people park at the Techniplex Conference Center lot or at Village Hall on Main Street, both a short walk from the start. Packet pickup the evening before is at a local running store, with race-morning pickup available at the school before the gun.

Common Questions About the Karknocker 5K Race/Walk - 29th Annual

Will I finish last at the Karknocker 5K Race/Walk - 29th Annual?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 27:19, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Karknocker 5K Race/Walk - 29th Annual a good first 5K?

It is a small race (159 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Karknocker 5K Race/Walk - 29th Annual?

The 5K winner ran 14:48 while the median finisher took 27:19. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
