About the 2027 Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K
The course runs through Veterans Park in Hoover, a comfortable route with the pavilion area serving as the heart of the event. The race honors the former president of Jefferson State Community College, a figure tied closely to the college's mission around access to education, and proceeds go toward student scholarships. Post-race, there is popcorn, cotton candy, a DJ, and face painting on the grounds.
Packet pickup runs on the two days before the race at the health sciences building on the adjacent college campus, just across from the park. Race-morning pickup is available at the park pavilion as well, with a firm check-in cutoff before the start gun.
