About the JSRC Deal Trick or Trot

The race runs a certified road course through Deal, a small shore town. The route is flat, as you would expect along the coast, and the surroundings are quiet residential streets. There is also a racewalk option and kids' dashes, so the morning draws a real mix of ages and purposes, including dogs in costume.

Packet pickup is race morning at the Deal Casino, which also serves as the finish area. Park in the north lot only; the south lot is kept clear for emergency vehicles and the finish chute. A barbecue and refreshments are set up right at the finish, and there are costume contests for both people and their pets.

Common Questions About the JSRC Deal Trick or Trot

Will I finish last at the JSRC Deal Trick or Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4 Miles field finished slower than 39:05, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:14:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the JSRC Deal Trick or Trot a good first 4 Miles?

It is a small race (150 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the JSRC Deal Trick or Trot?

The 4 Miles winner ran 23:36 while the median finisher took 39:05. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
