About the Ironton Rail Trail 10K Run/Walk 25th Anniversary

The Ironton Rail Trail runs through a stretch of converted railroad corridor, which means the surface is smooth and the grade stays gentle throughout. There are no sharp turns or technical sections; it is the kind of course where you can settle into a pace early and hold it. Trees line much of the route, which keeps things shaded even on a warm morning.

Packet pickup is on race morning before the start, so there is no need to come out the day before. After finishing, there are snacks and an awards ceremony on site, with gift cards going to the top overall finishers in both the men's and women's fields, and age group awards covering a wide range of categories.

Common Questions About the Ironton Rail Trail 10K Run/Walk 25th Anniversary

Will I finish last at the Ironton Rail Trail 10K Run/Walk 25th Anniversary?

Almost certainly not. Half the 6.2 Miles field finished slower than 1:02:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:26:46, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ironton Rail Trail 10K Run/Walk 25th Anniversary a good first 6.2 Miles?

It is a small race (50 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 6.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ironton Rail Trail 10K Run/Walk 25th Anniversary?

The 6.2 Miles winner ran 43:58 while the median finisher took 1:02:20. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
