The course runs on the Capital Trail, a paved path through Charles City. The start releases runners in small groups to keep the trail from getting crowded, and your chip time begins when you cross the mat, so the staggered start does not affect your result. Distance options cover a shorter and a longer out-and-back on the same trail.
The race is held at Indian Fields Tavern and 5 Fields Brewing Co., which serves as both the start and finish area. A costume contest happens before the races go off, and there is a post-race beer waiting at the finish. Packet pickup opens before the costume judging, so there is time to settle in.
