About the ICF 2026 GLOBAL "IN THEIR SHOES 5K" Run/Walk
The course runs through Burke Lake Park, a wooded park with paved paths that makes for a pleasant morning out. The race benefits Iraqi orphans and vulnerable children, and the organization behind it works across Iraq providing education, medical care, and protection to kids in difficult circumstances. That context gives the morning a weight that a typical local road race does not have.
After the run, there is an after-party with snacks and music in the park. Awards go to the largest team and the top fundraiser, so some participants come as much for the team competition as for the running itself. Rain does not cancel it unless conditions turn dangerous, so plan to run regardless of the forecast.
