About the Ice Breaker Road Race

The Ice Breaker Road Race runs through Great Falls with distance options for runners looking to push hard and others who want something shorter. Both routes share the road, so faster and slower participants are out there together, which gives the morning an open feel without being one thing or the other.

Packet pickup is held the day before at the Great Falls Convention Center, inside the Civic Center complex, with a window on race morning as well for anyone who could not make it the day before.

Common Questions About the Ice Breaker Road Race

Will I finish last at the Ice Breaker Road Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3 Miles field finished slower than 39:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:09, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ice Breaker Road Race a good first 3 Miles?

With 919 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ice Breaker Road Race?

The 3 Miles winner ran 16:34 while the median finisher took 39:37. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
