About the I Can And I Will Run!

The course runs on the inner trail at Green Lake Community Center, then spreads into the surrounding park before looping back to the start. The terrain is mixed, so expect a blend of paved path and softer ground. The race benefits Seattle Children's Hospital, specifically helping families who cannot cover the cost of their child's care.

Packet pickup happens ahead of race day at a running store on the east side of Green Lake. If you cannot make it to an early pickup, bibs are available at the registration table on race morning. Friends picking up gear for each other is explicitly welcome.

Common Questions About the I Can And I Will Run!

Will I finish last at the I Can And I Will Run!?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:40:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the I Can And I Will Run! a good first 5K?

A field of 668 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the I Can And I Will Run!?

The 5K winner ran 19:09 while the median finisher took 35:28. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the I Can And I Will Run!?

Join a local run club. Club Northwest, Seattle Running Club, West Seattle Running Club and others in Seattle welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
