About the Howl-o-ween 5k - Schaumburg

The course runs out and back on the Busse Woods Trail, a paved path that stays mostly flat through wooded surroundings. Dogs on leashes are welcome, which shapes the whole feel of the morning: expect a mix of runners and their pets sharing the trail with the occasional biker or pedestrian passing through.

All packet pickup is on race morning, so plan to get there a bit early rather than the evening before. The finish line puts out treats for dogs alongside the spread for people.

Common Questions About the Howl-o-ween 5k - Schaumburg

Will I finish last at the Howl-o-ween 5k - Schaumburg?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 48:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:26:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Howl-o-ween 5k - Schaumburg a good first 5K?

A field of 288 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Howl-o-ween 5k - Schaumburg?

The 5K winner ran 19:59 while the median finisher took 48:50. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
