About the Hospice of the Piedmont 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through Keswick Estate, and the surroundings are the kind that make you slow down and look around. The final stretch is called the Memorial Mile, and it is lined with the names of people who have died under hospice care. That stretch gives the race a weight you do not find at most events.

After the race, there are refreshments and an awards ceremony on site. The whole morning ties back to Hospice of the Piedmont's work with people facing serious illness and grief, and runners can participate as part of a fundraising team or individually to support that mission.

Common Questions About the Hospice of the Piedmont 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Hospice of the Piedmont 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 47:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:37:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hospice of the Piedmont 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 361 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hospice of the Piedmont 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 15:22 while the median finisher took 47:25. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
