About the 5th Annual Honor Our Veterans 5k/Health Walk

The course runs through Sherwood Island State Park, with Long Island Sound visible along the way. The race supports Homes for the Brave, a Bridgeport nonprofit that works with homeless Veterans, and it carries real personal weight: it was started to honor a Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart recipient, and that origin story shapes the feeling of the morning.

Sherwood Island State Park has its own parking areas, so getting there is straightforward. The setting is open and coastal, which makes the start area feel spacious rather than cramped.
