About the Home Stretch 5K for Homeless and At-Risk Vets

The course goes over the Eau Gallie Causeway, so expect an open, exposed stretch above the water with views in both directions. It is a bridge-and-back style route, which means the incline is gentle but present. The race benefits a local organization working to end veteran homelessness in the area, and that mission sits close to the surface of the morning.

Packet pickup runs the two days before at a local running store, with race-morning pickup available as well. The start is at Eau Gallie Square. After the race, beer from a nearby seafood spot is on hand, along with a DJ and raffles.

Common Questions About the Home Stretch 5K for Homeless and At-Risk Vets

Will I finish last at the Home Stretch 5K for Homeless and At-Risk Vets?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:11, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Home Stretch 5K for Homeless and At-Risk Vets a good first 5K?

A field of 324 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Home Stretch 5K for Homeless and At-Risk Vets?

The 5K winner ran 18:57 while the median finisher took 39:11. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
