About the Hilo Bay Jingle Bell 5k
The course runs out from the staging area near Hilo Bay, tracing the waterfront toward Keaukaha before turning back at a car dealership and returning the way it came. It is an out-and-back along the bay, so you see the same scenery twice, which means you also pass other runners on the return leg.
Packet pickup runs the evening before at Puna Canoe Club, with race-morning pickup available as well. The start and finish are on the street just behind the club. After you finish, the Puna Canoe Club ladies serve a pancake breakfast right there; they are running the event as an off-season fundraiser for their long-distance paddling program.
