About the Headwaters Bank Run (26th Annual)

The course runs on the Headwaters Trail System, mostly flat, passing the Three Forks Ponds and crossing the Madison River on a pedestrian bridge. The half marathon extends into Headwaters State Park, where the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers meet. Each distance is color-coded on the trail, so navigation is straightforward once you know your markers.

The races start at Veteran Park in downtown Three Forks, near the Sacajawea Hotel and the Train Depot Museum. Snacks and beverages are out after the race, and water is available along the course. Timing is handled by chip, so results come through cleanly.

Common Questions About the Headwaters Bank Run (26th Annual)

Will I finish last at the Headwaters Bank Run (26th Annual)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:02, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Headwaters Bank Run (26th Annual) a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (38 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Headwaters Bank Run (26th Annual)?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:45 while the median finisher took 36:02. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
