About the Hattie's Day 5K
The race starts and finishes at Jackie O's Taproom in Athens. Before anyone runs, there is a brief ceremony honoring Hattie Jean White, the girl the race is named for, including a moment of reflection and a release of doves. The Wildflower Legacy Foundation, started by her parents, uses the event to fund experiences for children in the community.
After the run, the gathering moves inside the taproom for the afternoon. There are raffles and a broader family event tied to the foundation's work. The post-race atmosphere is less about recovery and more about the reason people came out in the first place.
