About the Happy Valley Town Series (9/16, 9/23, & 9/30)

The races run off-road behind the Lodge at Tussey Mountain, after dark, with the results going up on a large screen as they come in. There are no podiums. The course is mountain-bike-optimized but tame enough for gravel or cross bikes, and runners and cyclists share the same event night.

The whole thing doubles as an outdoor expo, with live music and food alongside the racing. Local adventure and outdoor groups set up each week, and the course is laid out so spectators can watch from most of it. Helmets are required for anyone on a bike; no e-bikes allowed.

Common Questions About the Happy Valley Town Series (9/16, 9/23, & 9/30)

Will I finish last at the Happy Valley Town Series (9/16, 9/23, & 9/30)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1.5K field finished slower than 6:54, and the last recorded finisher came in around 11:04, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Happy Valley Town Series (9/16, 9/23, & 9/30) a good first 1.5K?

It is a small race (39 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1.5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Happy Valley Town Series (9/16, 9/23, & 9/30)?

The 1.5K winner ran 4:37 while the median finisher took 6:54. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
