About the GTC Paris Mountain Road Race

The course starts at a church on Old Buncombe Road and heads up the north side of Paris Mountain before dropping down the south side and winding back through hilly back roads to the finish. Both distance options are genuinely hilly, with steep grades and enough curves to keep you honest the whole way around. This is not a PR course.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Greenville Running Company on Haywood Road, near Haywood Mall. Race-morning pickup is also available outside the church before the start.

Common Questions About the GTC Paris Mountain Road Race

Will I finish last at the GTC Paris Mountain Road Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 20K field finished slower than 1:49:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:57:01, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the GTC Paris Mountain Road Race a good first 20K?

It is a small race (68 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 20K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the GTC Paris Mountain Road Race?

The 20K winner ran 1:20:04 while the median finisher took 1:49:13. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
