About the Growler Gallop Atwater 10 Mile & 5K

Atwater Brewery anchors both the start and finish, right on the Detroit Riverwalk. The longer course crosses to Belle Isle and loops the whole island before coming back; the shorter course stays on the Riverwalk and turns around before the bridge. Both routes are flat and run along the water, with the city skyline on one side and the river on the other.

Packet pickup happens at the brewery before the start, so there is no separate trip the day before. Running clubs that bring a group get a team tent with packets already waiting there. After the race, Atwater Brewery is the gathering spot, and craft beer is available for runners of drinking age.

Common Questions About the Growler Gallop Atwater 10 Mile & 5K

Will I finish last at the Growler Gallop Atwater 10 Mile & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:38, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:23:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Growler Gallop Atwater 10 Mile & 5K a good first 5K?

With 808 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Growler Gallop Atwater 10 Mile & 5K?
