About the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through the Boston-Edison neighborhood, a historic residential district known for its large early-twentieth-century homes. The route is new this year, so even returning runners will be seeing fresh streets. Start and finish are both at Voigt Park, at the corner of Longfellow and Second, which keeps things simple and means the crowd is concentrated in one place.

A DJ plays after the race, and the park stays open for celebrating once you finish. The start area doubles as check-in, so there is no need to sort out multiple locations on race morning.

Common Questions About the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 31:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 54:33, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (128 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:01 while the median finisher took 31:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Historic Boston-Edison Association 5K Run/Walk?

Join a local run club. WERUN313, Detroit Downtown Runners and Walkers, RUNdetroit and others in Detroit welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
