About the Groundhog 7-miler/5-miler
The course runs on a rail trail heading north out of Zionsville, starting and finishing at the local high school. Both distance options share the same trail; the longer route simply pushes farther before turning back. The trail surface is what you would expect from a converted rail bed: straight, even, and open to the winter sky. Cold wind on the return leg is a real possibility.
Runners who want the longer option need to hold a reasonable pace through a checkpoint at Mulberry Street, or the course marshal will redirect them onto the shorter route home. The Zionsville Food Pantry is the beneficiary, and volunteers from the pantry are on site to collect cash donations and canned goods at the finish.
