About the Green Street Santa Sprint

The course runs point to point down Historic Green Street, dropping gradually the whole way past decorated historic homes and oak trees strung with Christmas lights. Runners wear green Santa suits, and crowds line both sides of the street. The organizers describe the course as fast, and the consistent downhill pitch supports that.

Packet pickup is available the day before at a location on Riverside Drive, with a second option near the start on race day. Street closures and a very large crowd are expected downtown, so plan to park in one of the parking decks near Gainesville Square and walk in. The race starts on time, with no late entry once the parade begins.

Common Questions About the Green Street Santa Sprint

Will I finish last at the Green Street Santa Sprint?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1 Miles field finished slower than 10:24, and the last recorded finisher came in around 28:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Green Street Santa Sprint a good first 1 Miles?

A field of 434 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Green Street Santa Sprint?

The 1 Miles winner ran 5:08 while the median finisher took 10:24. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
