About the Great 5k and Paddlefest

This race is held at Fox Creek Farms on Ellerbe Road, a working farm setting outside the city. The run itself is a standard road distance, but the real draw here is what comes after the start gun: a paddle on the water using your own kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, with rentals available if you need one. Lifejackets are required for the water portion.

Packet pickup runs the two days before the race at a local sporting goods store, with a race-morning option at the farm. After finishing, there is a post-race party on the grounds with food from a local restaurant, live music, and activities for kids.

Common Questions About the Great 5k and Paddlefest

Will I finish last at the Great 5k and Paddlefest?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 38:40, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:11, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Great 5k and Paddlefest a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (49 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Great 5k and Paddlefest?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 25:00 while the median finisher took 38:40. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
