The GR5K runs through Shawnee Mission Park and is held in memory of Gralon Rhys Kimble. The park setting gives the course a natural, open feel. A family mile option runs alongside the main race, so people of most ages and paces tend to show up together.
All proceeds go to a group of children's charities the race has partnered with, spanning Nepal, Costa Rica, Israel, and Malawi. A virtual option is also available for those who cannot make it to the park in person.
