About the Giddy Up 5K/5Miler Ranch Run (HALLOWEEN EDITION!)

The course runs through a working ranch outside Sisters, so the surroundings are open and rural rather than pavement and parking lots. Costumes are part of the deal here, and there is a contest for them, so expect more than a few creative outfits on the trail. Halloween treats show up at the finish, along with live music and a post-race spread of drinks and snacks.

There is also a free kids run, which pulls in families and gives the finish area a party feel. The start and finish are on ranch property, so the whole morning stays in one place.

Common Questions About the Giddy Up 5K/5Miler Ranch Run (HALLOWEEN EDITION!)

Will I finish last at the Giddy Up 5K/5Miler Ranch Run (HALLOWEEN EDITION!)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Giddy Up 5K/5Miler Ranch Run (HALLOWEEN EDITION!) a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Giddy Up 5K/5Miler Ranch Run (HALLOWEEN EDITION!)?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:25 while the median finisher took 33:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
