About the Frigid 5 Miler - PA
The course takes on the North Ridge loop, and it earns its name. There is real climbing here, including a hill right before the finish line that you have been dreading since the halfway point. The surroundings are park trails in the middle of winter, so expect cold air and honest terrain underfoot.
Packet pickup runs the evening before the race at a local running and cycling shop, with race-morning pickup available at the lodge before the start. Parking near the lodge fills fast, and once it does, the road closes and late arrivals walk up from a lower lot by the skating rink. Pancakes are waiting at the finish, cooked by a local running coach who donates proceeds to a Pittsburgh-area charity.
